Plot Summary:
Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek.  One day, Shrek finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits who have been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions. When Shrek sets off with a wisecracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he's handed a task — if he rescues feisty princess Fiona, his swamp will be righted. Shrek tries to win Fiona’s love and vanquish Lord Farquaad, but a fairytale wouldn't be complete without a few twists and turns along the way.

Connection to the Gospel:
Shrek The Musical JR. connects strongly to the Gospel message found in 1 Samuel 16:7 “People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, and the fairytale creatures don’t fit in Lord Farquaad’s kingdom, but they learn that their true worth comes from who they are on the inside rather than how others see them. Their journey reflects the Christian message that God loves and values every person fully and calls us to show compassion to others, especially those who feel like outsiders. Shrek Jr. encourages audiences to embrace themselves for who they are, not how they look, celebrate differences, and recognize the dignity and purpose in every individual.
